Thinking ahead to 2011...

Today you are witnessing "history" - I am starting a New Years Resolution...months ahead. One of my goals this coming year is to have a schedule of events set up aheado f time. Although I am hopeful to have each of you here every month, I want you to make sure you put on your calendars those dates you want to make sure you don't miss. I have commitments from 2 speakers for next year - but have not firmed up the dates:

---Donna Walls, RN, is an Herbalist, Aroma therapist and speaker. She holds workshops and lectures locally and nationally. She will share her expertise with us in natural healing.

---Barbette Spitler, RN, specializes in Energy Medicine. Her focus is on disease prevention and health promotion; she believes the power to heal our self is inherent in each of us.

---I have had suggestions for speakers regarding Alzheimer's Disease and I will pursue this as well. The pharmacist that spoke previously has agreed to come back and a local physician has agreed to speak about how to best work with your primary care physician. Once I firm up these dates I will let you know.

(please note - the 2011 dates are under the 'Who,Where, When' tab)

October Meeting...

We will use this night (10/21/10) to break up into groups to talk about issues that impact each of us as survivors of stroke and as caregivers. We all have the potential to be successful in the role we have been given. We draw strength from each other and we learn from each other. I (Barb) will spend a few minutes discussing an idea I have for next year. I would like to see our group participate in a HEART WALK. We can all train for this event, and Kelly has offered her expertise on how to do this. Everyone can participate! We would train to walk just one mile! I believe we will have 'support coaches' from the hospital stroke team to work with you. You have not only survivied your stroke...you can thrive!

September Meeting & National Cholesterol Education Month

Bocce ball - washer toss - wii bowling - FOOD and FUN had by all!

We had a great night together - relaxing and catching up. We had some young visitors (Ella - Kelly's daughter & Jacob, Ken / Ginger's grandson). These young faces always bring us big smiles.

DID YOU KNOW??????

25% of the body's cholesterol comes from the foods you eat, so eating vegetables may be a great way to maintain a healthier lifestyle. Remind everyone you know about the importance of maintaining a healthier lifestyle to potentially reduce cholesterol and stroke risk. Increasing your vegetable intake is also another way to support your local farmers. Many farms are now delivering fresh, organic vegetables and fruits to your doorstep! Check out http://www.fultonfarms.com and click on the bottom middle box titled 'Organic Produce.' They have a program called Happy Box, that does just that - keeps your body happy!
